Crying In H Mart Movie On Hold

Announced in 2021, the adaptation of Crying In H Mart, the bestselling memoir from Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner, has been placed on an indefinite hold.

Zauner, known for her musical project Japanese Breakfast, spent a year crafting the screenplay and remains hopeful about the project's future. However, she has indicated that the film is not progressing at this time and is redirecting her focus to other creative endeavors.

The adaptation was initially announced in June 2021, with Zauner set to provide the soundtrack. In March 2023, Will Sharpe, known for his work on The White Lotus, was brought on as director. The recent Hollywood strikes and Sharpe's exit have contributed to the project's current pause.

Despite these setbacks, Zauner remains optimistic about the film's eventual production but acknowledges that it will not happen in the near future. In the meantime, she is concentrating on other artistic projects.
