Oh No, Madame Web Not Eligible For Best Picture

Nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on January 17, and while the Academy has yet to announce the official nominations, they have posted which movies are ineligible to win a little gold man for Best Picture. Out of the 323 films that are eligible for an Academy Award, at least 36% of those (116) are only allowed to compete for, well, all of the other awards.

How does a film lose eligibility? There are two ways:

1. Don’t submit for Best Picture. Animated films, foreign films, and documentaries tend to submit in more specific categories.

2. New eligibility rules that require Best Picture candidates to meet additional benchmarks for diversity and inclusion.

The full list of eligible films are available here. Unfortunately, Madame Web will not be in the running for Best Picture.
