'Friday the 13th' Prequel Series 'Crystal Lake' Revived with New Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane

Fans of the iconic Friday the 13th franchise can breathe a sigh of relief as the long-awaited prequel series Crystal Lake is back on track with a new showrunner at the helm. Peacock's upcoming series has tapped Brad Caleb Kane, known for his work on the It prequel series Welcome to Derry, as the new showrunner and creator. This news comes as a boost to horror enthusiasts who have been eagerly anticipating a return to the blood-soaked grounds of Camp Crystal Lake.

The Friday the 13th franchise, which has spawned over ten films since its debut in 1980, was set to make a major comeback in the form of a television series with the creative powerhouse A24 behind the project. However, the show faced setbacks, leading to uncertainty about its future. With Kane's hiring, the series now has new momentum, and production can move forward.

Kane expressed his excitement about taking on the project, saying, "From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask." He added, "Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24."

Crystal Lake was originally ordered to series at Peacock in 2022, with Bryan Fuller (Star Trek: Discovery, Hannibal) initially attached as showrunner. Fuller exited the project earlier this year, citing creative differences. Plot details for Crystal Lake remain under wraps, leaving fans to speculate on what horrors await in this prequel to one of the most legendary slasher franchises in film history.

With Kane now leading the charge, attention will turn to the development of the series, which promises to explore new dimensions of the Friday the 13th mythos. As fans eagerly await more details, the revival of Crystal Lake signals that the return to Camp Crystal Lake may be closer than ever.
